You stay

its not what you expected

you never could foresee after going through the tough times together

they would not be ready to commit

you never could foresee that after all their promises 

that they would not deliver

you never could foresee that after all the investment and care put into you

they would not claim you

you never could foresee that they would lie to you every day

tell you all the words you wanted to hear

whisper sweet nothings

attempt to challenge you and fail miserably

attempt to provide for you but giving you the barest minimum

attempt to make you see that they are with you for the long term

that they value you

that they need you

that you are irreplaceable 

but what do they give you?

time, lots of time to stay alone , sad , depressed, bitter, angry

money, lots of kobo very few naira, to entertain you and make you think they will soon get there

words, lots of words to make you feel that the constant  communication is what really makes you guys a strong partnership

and you stay

you stay because you have nowhere else to go

you stay because you don't want to be anywhere else

you stay because you think they will pull through in the end

you stay because you love those sweet nothings, hearing their voices, their messages everyday

you stay because you think the situation-ship is temporary that one day you will be claimed

you stay because you believe the best is worth waiting for

you stay because they keep you on the edge, even admist the threats, you stay 

you stay in the toxic environment

you stay whilst your friends have moved on

you stay whilst others have made commitments but yours isn't

you stay whilst others receive what they really deserve

you stay rotting away absorbing the crumbs they feed you

you stay.
